Crystal Palace are now in “negotiations” to sign a highly-rated defender in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Guehi could leave Crystal Palace for Liverpool
The Eagles have been under threat of losing Marc Guehi for a year or so now, with his performances for England at Euro 2024 raising his profile significantly.
The 24-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Newcastle United last summer, but in the end, the Magpies couldn’t justify the money Palace were demanding for his signature.
This summer, interest in Guehi has once again emerged, including from Arsenal, and it now looks as though the Englishman is a strong target for Liverpool, who see him as a replacement for Jarell Quansah. The Reds youngster is expected to complete a move to Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen.
If the Palace ace does move on before next season gets underway, a top-quality option will be required to replace him, and an eye-catching Eagles transfer rumour has now emerged.
Crystal Palace in "negotiations" as Glasner "approves" Diomande deal
Crystal Palace are in “talks” with Sporting CP over the signing of centre-back Ousmane Diomande, with the 21-year-old potentially seen as a direct replacement for Guehi, and Oliver Glasner giving the transfer the green light.
Diomande is arguably one of the most impressive young central defenders in Europe, and while keeping Guehi would arguably be preferable, he could be a fantastic successor to him.
The Ivory Coast international has already made 101 appearances for Sporting, picking up more experience than his age suggests, and journalist Kevin Fernandes has hailed him as a “dominant” defender.
Last season, Diomande completed 93.6% of his passes in the Primeira Liga, as well as averaging 2.7 clearances and 2.5 aerial duel wins per game in the competition, showing that he is a force both in and out of possession.

The Ivorian could be a fixture in Palace’s starting lineup for years to come, and if they do end up selling him to a bigger club, they should receive huge money for his signature.
