Tottenham’s central midfield has undergone quite a revamp in recent years with Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele leaving the club while Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso have arrived in north London.
But there is still surgery to be done and, with that in mind, football.london’s Rob Guest has compiled a list of five midfielders who should be considered as potential replacements for Eric Dier in the coming summer.
No clues whatsoever: Which seasons do these iconic Spurs images belong to?
One of the players listed in the article who is catching the eye of many of the fans is Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.
Upon seeing his name on the five-man shortlist, some of the supporters immediately singled him out and suggested the club should go for the 17-year-old prodigy, who is valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, if possible.
The problem, however, might be the interest of other clubs as well. Camavinga is just 17 years of age but is already a starter at Rennes, making 31 appearances in 2019/20 across all competitions.
That the French midfielder is already starting in Ligue 1 suggests he is bound to turn some heads in the future, and fans seem to think that might be a problem as he could be scooped up by the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
But for that very reason, one fan says it would really be a statement signing if they can pull if off.
Finally, one fan also emphasised that Spurs offer a great platform for the development of French players and that factor could give them an edge in the potential chase.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Jose Mourinho has any concrete interest in securing his signature this summer.
In other news, many Spurs fans had all sorts of responses to Jose Mourinho’s recent Harry Kane admission…
